What were the core values taught by Yeshua?
Above all else, Yeshua taught us not to be hypocrites. Yeshua said, "With the measure you mete it will be measured to you again." (1) But why should we care that much about not being a hypocrite? Yeshua explained why. He said we should fear God, who is able to destroy our soul. (2)
You may have been taught that God is not strict and he will probably let many people into heaven. Yeshua said this is not true, and the way of life is "narrow" and "few" end up saved. (3) That actually makes sense when you think about how many hypocrites there are in the world.
If this is the situation, it is no wonder Yeshua taught us to "seek first" that kingdom of heaven or "strive" to enter that narrow way. Having the eternal perspective means giving up the sort term pleasures in pursuit of something greater and eternal.
Yeshua declared:Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.(5)
What does it mean to be wise like a serpent? Serpents are a symbol of intelligence but also of deception. You are suspicious of a serpent because you know it may be deceiving you.
I think Yeshua wants us to be suspicious of anything that seems too good to be true. A handful of times Yeshua compelled us to look at the world as a symbol of how God created life to be. (6) So look around at this world. He wants us to understand life wasn't created to be paradise. It isn't this ideal place to live.
In fact if we follow God we will get some hate and we are like strangers and pilgrims here. We must never love the praise of men more than the praise of God, even when it means life is hard. Yeshua hopes we can rejoice and feel good when persecuted on account of doing what is right, trusting that we will have a reward from God. (7)
The last core values of Yeshua that need to mentioned are obedience and service. In this community as Yeshua fans all are welcome if they will obey Yeshua. When you become a student of Yeshua you become a brother in the faith, equal under Yeshua. (8) We are here to help guide Yeshua fans, as Yeshua would want us to.
Yeshua wants us to serve more than just our fellow brethren in the faith, but it is also through our special care and love for each other that the rest of mankind will be attracted to joining us, and the glory of God increases.
